Kansas City Chiefs @ Washington Redskins.
October 18th, 2009 | by Ryan John Estorninos |Fourth Quarter:
Man, I saw that false start from a mile away. BTW-Heyer has played well on the left side. Collins misses to Betts, and they are forced to punt. The crowd seems a little more patient. Defense needs a big stand. The offense needs more chances in there.
This is easily Big Boy’s best game. Electric Slide Randel El takes it close to mid-field.
LOL @ Collins trying to block on the end around-2 yard gain. Good awareness by Sellers to avoid the disaster.
What punt block was kind of wacky, eerily reminds me of last week vs. the Panthers.
That PI call hurts badly. That pass from behind the line was JC-like. Great stand by the defense. Dangerous grounds here, the ball is on the three yard line. That didn’t work out so well for them last week.
Great stand, holding KC to a FG try. And its good. The Skins need to get their act together now. We are playing four down possessions. No room for error what so ever. Collins must now justify the change at QB, except for a few bright spots, they play has been the same.
Rock gets the ball to the 29. It is now all or nothing. That pass was VERY VERY close to being picked off. Two downs to get to a first. Clock management is KEY. Collins fumbles the ball, and luckily Betts is there to cover up. It is looking very grim right now. VERY VERY GRIM! I wonder why they went for punts? They series was doomed from the start, and the fumble that was not recovered by the Skins is one of those “so close, yet so far away” mantra.
Why the heck did Zorn “attempt” to challenge the play? What was the deal with that? Another look see? Give me a break, at least we did not loose a time out. With Dwayne Bowe and that catch, this game is over. I don’t think there is anything more to see here.
I think the early QB play and play calling today was the true demise of this Redskins team today. Collins coming in was a bit of improvement. His management was not that much a difference than that of Jason Campbell. It goes to show that the problem is much deeper than the Quarterback play.
What a way to end it, a safety. I don’t think that there is any reason to wait for the bye. I will not be surprised to see Zorn, leave town shortly. With this play calling, what chance does the Front Office really think waiting after the Eagles will do to help?
After sobering up, I will try to offer some analysis . But there is nothing to say. The Redskins stink. And it pains me to say that, because I love this team so much.
Third Quarter:
Skins deferred in the first quarter, so they get the ball first. Rock to the 30, I guess that was good. Todd Collins is IN!?! Also Portis is not on the field? Deep to Moss from Collins! The Skins go out for a FG, but Collins is managing this game well. TIED 3-3.
The word is a high ankle sprain on Portis, his return is questionable.
On this defensive stand, I am feeling more life out of this team. Cassel strong in the pocket, got that pass to Wade with great stride.
Great big stop. But they are going for it. And then a Timeout. Now they punt…uhmmm ok, strange turn of events.
WHOA ARE almost blew that one…that was just wacky.
Personal note: I am a Campbell fan, but I can’t help but be a little excited about our chances now with Collins in command. Let’s see. I have just been a deprived fan, and I am dying to see some action.
PORTIS WITH A HUGE RUN!!!!!!But we need a touchdown! Ok Suisham for 3, I will take that but I want pay dirt.
Back to Portis’s run how about Sellers!!
What the…Over here in DC the channel faded out from the Kick Off to a radio broadcast of Super Bowl 26-Skins over Bills….hmmmm?
And we lost picture….I’ll try to get plays off the radio.
END QUARTER
Halftime Thoughts:
I am lost for words this is a ugly game, from both teams. The Redskins however, you would think they can’t get any uglier, but they have. The defense is playing well. There is no doubt that they are the only reason why the Skins are down 3-0.
The running game is ugly, and the passing game is lacking. The play down the stretch inside the the two minute warning, was disgusting.
I think it would be lip service for me to offer solutions to what I think would bring this team back. So I will simply say, firm up the passing game and get the running game going.
What else do you want me to say? Ok we settle for a FG, but I am excited none the less.
Second Quarter:
Personally this line, look pretty decent protecting JC. To much mustard on that last throw, time for a punt. Skins look to be getting some rhythm, but not capping things off. This has been a constant theme throughout the season.
Strong throw and great catch by Cassel and Wade. Great 3rd down stand after the holding call, but once again this offense must step up and score. The Skins burn their final timeout. This play selection has not been quality as they look to get within field goal range. Watch them to go the sidelines, and deep.
Second and 8, pass to Chris Cooley and a timeout. We need to some positive action now. Portis with a short run for the first. Clock management must be solid today.
Moss with a return, but I think it will go back a la flag. Ah, no flag and decent return by Moss.
As the offense takes the field, they need to shake things up. Probably throw a pass to open up. I haven’t been counting but I think they have opened up with a run each series so far. A quick slant or screen will be a good choice. Earlier on, I did say that a positive passing game will set up a good running day.
They opened up with a wide open Moss, but he could not hang on. And another three and out, and the boo birds gently come out. Gently only because no one is here at the game.
So far this is a great game if you like defense and punts.
Wow, great play by Cassel, but the PF by Haynesworth-Cassel looks hurt, Johnson with a 17 yard run. Dwayne Bowe is a great big target, 14 yards for a first. Johnson with power down the middle, I sense it beginning to look grim. Succop with a FG…KAN 3-0
Portis gets the call gets 4. On that last pitch to Portis, he used to be able to turn the corner on those. Just like that sack and three and out. A numbing wind is beginning to settle in. I have a bad feeling a scoring onslaught by the Chiefs is eminent. All they need is 10 points to possible seal the deal. The wya this offense is moving, what other kind of result do I expect to see from the Skins?
Big Boy Haynesworth going to take a break, he’ll be back. Waters for the Chiefs looks hurt as well. fourth down for KC? Just go for it, you might get it.
ARE is a great guy, but I mean could we possibly get someone in there that will advance the ball.
Portis hit behind the line, that was not pretty. The protection on JC is good so far, but the as far as the run blocking goes…I am not sure what to say. Lost step or bad blocking? I hate to say it but I am leaning towards the latter.
Do my eyes deceive me? Fred Davis with a first down? My favorite offense, no huddle. But quickly halted with a false start.
Deep to ARE, and a timeout. Let get some points on the board. Suisham warming up on the sideline for what I hope is an extra point soon.
I like the shot for a HAIL MARY. Let’s see how this goes, hopefully its not the hook and ladder again, and its picked off. The boo birds are out and out with a vengeance.
First Quarter:
So far good stand on defense. And a three and out! ARE with the side to side he is known for. That fumble was costly, VERY costly. Defense needs a big stand to make up for that huge mistake.
Cassel looking good making plays on his feet. However, great defensive stand. Skins get the ball back.
After the two horrible offensive starts, the defense looks stout. Spoke to soon, Dwayne Bowe with a great catch. Chris Wilson with a sack, Orakpo and Wilson. This defense is looking great today. Carter with a SACK, third for the team today!
Offense needs to step it up! Deep pass out of bounds and short run to Portis, this better not be another 3 and out. MR. DEPENDABLE-Chris Cooley!!
Pre-Game
It is a rainy day in Our Nation’s Capital. The Redskins and Chiefs get set to play on a soggy field. The Skins wearing their traditional white on burgundy, and the Chiefs in their Red on White. The stage is now set for today’s game.
Watching London Fletcher in the pre-game gets my excited! I almost want to take the field myself.
Wow, it is empty at Fed-Ex=(
